CDA to launch “Clean & Green Islamabad” campaign

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Syed Tahir Shahbaz will formally inaugurate the “Clean & Green Islamabad“, a sector-wise renovation, up-gradation and beautification campaign.

The campaign will be started from Social Dispensary, Markaz I-10. Officers and officials of CDA, children of different schools, members of civil society, traders unions and a large number of general public will participate in the campaign.

The purpose of launching of this campaign is to address the common complaints and issues of the general public at their doorstep.

This drive would also help improve overall state of capital city by creating awareness amongst the citizens with a message to own and transform their city.

“Clean & Green Islamabad” Campaign” would focus on maintenance of pot holes, roads lane marking, provision of missing manhole covers, maintenance of footpaths, repair of choked/leaking sewerage lines, disposal of stagnant water on roads, removal of rank vegetation, cleanliness and upkeep of parks, maintenance of green belts, upkeep of kids play areas, play grounds and other sports facilities. Roads, footpaths, manhole covers, leaking lines of water/sewage, street lights, median strips, green belts would be maintained in all respect.

The Member (Planning & Design), CDA, Syed Mustafain Kazmi, has been nominated as “Chief Coordinator” of the campaign.

CDA to expand IJP Road to eight lanes

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to expand IJ Principal Road to eight lanes after the volume of traffic has increased on it.
According to the statistics quoted by the CDA, the number of vehicles passing through the 11 kilometre strip of IJP Road from Peshawar Road to Faizabad Flyover has increased from 50,000 vehicles to 70,000 vehicles passing through it in a day. This increased volume of traffic has necessitate its expansion, which will cost Rs4 billion.

CDA Member Planning and Design Syed Mustafeen Kazmi said the plan to upgrade the road had been prepared but its implementation was being delayed due to encroachments made by some influential transporters. Motor workshops, kiosks and transport stands have encroached upon both the sides of IJP Road. The CDA has resolved to clear up these encroachments before starting the expansion of the road.

Kazmi said that a firm had also been directed to prepare a flyover design to link Ninth Avenue to Stadium Road to avoid traffic jams on the crossing. The design has also been forwarded to the National Highway Authority (NHA) for its finalisation. Continue reading

Development work in Sector G-14 in full swing


On receiving support from Islamabad Administration and after the affectees have assured their full cooperation, the development work in sub-sectors G-14/2 and G-14/3, where the CDA is in possession of land, is in full swing, says an official of the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF).

The FGEHF is likely to start development work in Sector G-15/3 in a couple of months to give possession of alternative plots to the affected people of Sector G-14.

FGEHF Director General Mian Talaat Rasheed, when contacted, told ‘The News’ that the foundation had asked its consultant to complete designing of Sector G-15/3 and it was hoped that it would be completed in one month.

“We have already mobilised some machinery in Sector G-15/3 for ground levelling, but now the development activity will start as per plan,” he said.

He said survey of Built up Property (BuP) in Sector G-14/1 would start next week and task would be accomplished in one-month period. “The affected people who earlier were not allowing survey teams to start their job, have now soften their stand on seeing machinery moving in G-14/2 and G-14/3,” he said adding that the FGEHF management is monitoring the whole activity on weekly basis so that problems coming in the way could be addressed. SC orders CDA: Farmhouses be reverted to agricultural lands

ISLAMABAD, April 18: The party is over for the hundreds of rich influential people who have converted agro-farmlands around Islamabad into their own, private, palatial abodes.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to restore all 504 farmhouses to agricultural land within three weeks—thus reflecting the status of the original leases, which was meant to ensure agricultural produce from the areas around the capital.

“Undo everything without any ifs and buts,” Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary ordered the CDA.

Some of the bigwigs who own these palatial farmhouses include former president Pervez Musharraf, former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, former Senate chairman Mohammadmian Soomro, PML (Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Senator Wasim Sajjad, former senator Dr Shahzad Waseem, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Raja Nadir Pervez and several retired senior army officers.

The land was originally awarded to people displaced by the development of the capital. The aim was to rehabilitate the displaced, and ensure that they grow agri-products, fruits, vegetables and poultry, and supply them to the citizens of Islamabad.

Over time, however, the lands were sold by the displaced to rich influential people, who converted them into mansions, wedding halls, or offices—all taking up more space than originally allowed by the CDA.

That is why the Supreme Court has now decided that the land occupied by the farmhouses must follow the same rules and regulations applicable at the time when these agro-farms were awarded to the displaced persons.

Transfers and postings in CDA


A BPS-19 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Group, Naeem Rauf, has been appointed as director general administration at the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Two other officers, who joined the civic body on deputation a few days back, have also been given assignments. Malik Kashif Awan, an officer of BPS-18, who came from Punjab, has been appointed as deputy director sanitation, while Abdul Rashid Kundi from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has been given the charge of deputy director coordination.

Malik Muhammad Saleem, who is performing duty at the Public Relations Department for many years, has been given the current charge of deputy director PR.

Khizar Hayat Satti has been transferred from sanitation directorate and posted as deputy director (bazaars) at the DMA.

At least, three officials, who have been serving in the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) — Mahboob Ahmad, Yasir Gill and Riaz Khan — have also been removed from their DMA posts. Simon Nathanial has been given the charge of assistant director (enforcement), DMA. Continue reading

CDA to start drive for renovation of sectors

Islamabad: Arrangements for CDA’s upcoming ‘Sector-wise renovation, upgradation and beautification campaign’ were finalised in a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz here on Tuesday.

The CDA chairman said that the basic idea behind the campaign is to address the common complaints and issues of general public at their doorsteps and improve the overall condition of sectors. He said that the campaign would start from sectors of I and G series because these sectors remained comparatively unattended in the past which gave birth to many problems.

The chairman was apprised that all relevant formations of the authority would carry out activities in every sector for three days. These activities would also help in the creation of awareness among the residents of that sector.

The campaign would start next week from Sector I-10. In the three-day activity, issues of sewerage, sanitation, encroachment and upkeep would be addressed, which would be followed accordingly. The targeted areas of the campaign are sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, G-9, G-10, G-11, G-13, I-8, I-9, I-10, I-11, Fruit and Vegetable Market, F-6, F-7, F-8, F-10, F-11, E-7, Nurpur Shahan, Rawal Lake, Model Village Rawal Town, Shahzad Town, Margalla Town and Model Village Humak.
