Annual meeting of DHA Body held

KARACHI – The annual meeting of DHA Governing Body chaired by Secretary Defence, Lt. Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik, was held at Headquarters 5 Corps.  Commander 5 Corps Lt Gen Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry was also present on the occasion, says a DHA statement here on Monday.The Secretary Defence said that DHA Karachi had come a long way in emerging as a prestigious residential estate of the country providing best civic amenities and dynamic living environment to residents. He asked the Housing Authority to continue introducing new trends in the field of housing and civic management with a forward looking approach to ensure that DHA remains a versatile organisation capable to respond to the future challenges.Administrator DHA, Brig Muhammad Abdullah, gave an overview of DHA and briefed the members of Governing Body about the ongoing DHA development projects.

Chairman Governing Body said that DHA City Karachi was a unique project which was testimony of DHA’s credibility and stability as a strong entity in the field of housing and development in the country. He emphasised the need for completing the project with professional diligence at a fast pace so that it should serve as a model for future cities in the country and abroad.He appreciated the DHA’s initiative of establishing Central Control Cell for efficient and hassle-free approval of building plans.  He asked DHA to further improve the system by using modern IT technology.

He also stressed the need for ensuring water and electricity conservation to minimize the shortage of these commodities.  He specially emphasised the need for ensuring stoppage of wastage of water through introducing efficient checking and monitoring mechanism in DHA.The Governing Body also gave approval of DHA’s development budget 2012-13. It was informed that the infrastructure development works at DHA City Karachi (DCK) were going on in full swing to make DCK a livable entity by 2016.

Meanwhile, the Acting Deputy High Commissioner of Britain in Karachi, John Derek, met with Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, in his office, says a statement on Monday.Zaidi apprised him of the details of the Commissionerate system and the steps undertaken by the District Administration for the provision of relief to the people.

He informed John Derek that soon after taking charge as Commissioner Karachi his priorities were resolving the traffic problems and eradication of encroachments in the city as well as the early completion of the Lyari Expressway project besides making the metropolis polio free.The Acting UK Deputy High Commissioner appreciated the steps that are being taken by the Karachi administration for the betterment of the people of the City.

LDA seals 26 commercial properties

LAHORE, Oct 22: The Lahore Development Authority’s commercialisation wing on Monday sealed 26 commercial properties, situated along Main Boulevard of the PIA Society after their owners failed to pay the requisite fee.

The properties that were sealed by various LDA field teams included bearing numbers 1, 2, 5, 9 and 302 of Block A-I, 11, 51and 52 of block B-I, 201, 243, 270, 282 and 283 of Block-C, 20, 27, 29, 31 and 45 of Block-D, 22, 408, 409, 418 and 424 of Block-E and 2, 3 and 6 of Block-F. Continue reading

Mystery surrounds DHA budget approval

KARACHI, Oct 22: The Defence Housing Authority development budget 2012-13 was approved in the annual meeting of its governing body held at the corps headquarters, says a DHA statement issued on Monday.

While the news regarding the passage of the budget was shared with the media, the DHA showing complete disregard to people’s right to know refused to disclose the amount of the budget.

Chaired by Defence Secretary retired lieutenant general Asif Yasin Malik, the governing body meeting was attended by its chairman lieutenant general Mohammad Ijaz Chaudhry, administrator brigadier Mohammad Abdullah and other officials.

The defence secretary said that DHA Karachi had come a long way in emerging as a prestigious residential estate of the country providing best civic amenities and dynamic living environment to residents.

He asked the housing authority to continue introducing new trends in the field of housing and civic management with a forward-looking approach to ensure that DHA remains a versatile organisation capable to respond to the future challenges.

Earlier, DHA Administrator Brig Mohammad Abdullah gave an overview of the DHA and briefed the governing body about the ongoing development projects.

Over 70 CDA officials reshuffled

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday reshuffled over 70 officials to ensure better governance in a number of its directorates.

In a late night development, Ghulam Sarwar Sandhu was removed from the post of director general planning wing and directed to report to the human resource department for further posting. Mr Sandhu headed the wing for over two years.

Habibur Rehman Khan, the director general (law) of the legal wing, was demoted to the position of deputy director general.
