KARACHI – The annual meeting of DHA Governing Body chaired by Secretary Defence, Lt. Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik, was held at Headquarters 5 Corps. Commander 5 Corps Lt Gen Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry was also present on the occasion, says a DHA statement here on Monday.The Secretary Defence said that DHA Karachi had come a long way in emerging as a prestigious residential estate of the country providing best civic amenities and dynamic living environment to residents. He asked the Housing Authority to continue introducing new trends in the field of housing and civic management with a forward looking approach to ensure that DHA remains a versatile organisation capable to respond to the future challenges.Administrator DHA, Brig Muhammad Abdullah, gave an overview of DHA and briefed the members of Governing Body about the ongoing DHA development projects.
Chairman Governing Body said that DHA City Karachi was a unique project which was testimony of DHA’s credibility and stability as a strong entity in the field of housing and development in the country. He emphasised the need for completing the project with professional diligence at a fast pace so that it should serve as a model for future cities in the country and abroad.He appreciated the DHA’s initiative of establishing Central Control Cell for efficient and hassle-free approval of building plans. He asked DHA to further improve the system by using modern IT technology.
He also stressed the need for ensuring water and electricity conservation to minimize the shortage of these commodities. He specially emphasised the need for ensuring stoppage of wastage of water through introducing efficient checking and monitoring mechanism in DHA.The Governing Body also gave approval of DHA’s development budget 2012-13. It was informed that the infrastructure development works at DHA City Karachi (DCK) were going on in full swing to make DCK a livable entity by 2016.
Meanwhile, the Acting Deputy High Commissioner of Britain in Karachi, John Derek, met with Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, in his office, says a statement on Monday.Zaidi apprised him of the details of the Commissionerate system and the steps undertaken by the District Administration for the provision of relief to the people.
He informed John Derek that soon after taking charge as Commissioner Karachi his priorities were resolving the traffic problems and eradication of encroachments in the city as well as the early completion of the Lyari Expressway project besides making the metropolis polio free.The Acting UK Deputy High Commissioner appreciated the steps that are being taken by the Karachi administration for the betterment of the people of the City.
