City to have four modern parking stands

LAHORE: City District Government Lahore will develop modern parking stands in Moon Market, Gulberg liberty market, Hafeez Centre and Barkat market in order to solve the parking problems in the city.

In this regard, an agreement was signed between Lahore Parking Company and City District Government Lahore at Town Hall on Monday. DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, Chairman Lahore Parking Company MPA Hafiz Noman, Administrators of all towns, representatives of S-Park Company of Turkey and three-member of Turkish delegation were also present.

Addressing the meeting, DCO Noor Ul Amin Menagl said that citizens would feel relief after the establishment of modernized parking stands and plazas. He added that these parking stands would be developed through public-private partnership. Continue reading

BB Road from Rehmanabad to Faizabad blocked

RAWALPINDI – The Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR) has been blocked for all kinds of traffic from Rehmanabad to Faizabad for the construction period of the Rehmanabad Flyover.

In a meeting held to discuss the construction of Rehmnabad Flyover, Chief Traffic officer, Syed Ishtiaq Shah said that the vehicle bazaars organised on Friday were a big hurdle in the smooth flow of traffic. He suggested taking a strict action against the bazaars. Thus the DCO ordered to immediately ban Jumma Bazaar on BB Road under Section 144, saying the police would take strict action against the violators of the ban.

Talking to INP, Ishtiaq Husain said that the traffic could be diverted from Sixth Road to Faizabad for the time being. While, traffic of both the sides of the road would be blocked after a few days.

He further said that chief minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif would inaugurate the construction of the flyover on September 25.

The chief traffic officer appealed to the public to use the alternative routes from Chandni Chowk to avoid inconvenience.

He said road users going to Islamabad should use Saidpur Road and the commuters coming from the federal capital should use Airport and Golra Sharif Raod.

The authorities also decided to initiate a grand operation against the encroachments on Benazir Bhutto Road, Commercial Market, Saidpur Road and Pandora besides on the entire alternative routes of the BB Road. Continue reading

Infrastructure development starts in G-14

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation has handed over G-14/2, 3 to National Construction Company Limited (NCL) for infrastructure development and the company has started mobilizing the machinery.

According to sources, the foundation still did not pay the mobilization advance to the construction company. The foundation sources informed that the cheque of mobilization advance would be given to the company on Monday. The housing foundation wasted two weeks in handing over the site to the construction company, NCL and did not pay the advance yet.

It is relevant to mention here that the award of the compensation money of the G-14 land owners and the case is in the Islamabad High Court. Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui made a commission consisting retired District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Mazhar Abbas to hold an inquiry into the complaint of fake house-owners in G-14.

The commission would submit its report in the high court till October 31. Continue reading

Capital rain-hit roads need maintenance

ISLAMABAD – Several roads damaged and deteriorated as a result of monsoon rains in the Federal Capital need urgent maintenance by the concerned department of Capital Development Authority (CDA).

After the rains, different roads have broken and even big holes could be seen which pose not only a serious threat to the vehicles but also lives of their drivers.

According to a survey conducted by this agency here on Sunday, the road from NDC to 7-Up Chowk being used by heavy traffic presents an ugly look as it has been deteriorated and turned into pieces after the rains. “The condition of the entire road especially near the Islamabad Railway Station and I-10/3 industrial area is very bad and several vehicles have met with the accidents”,said Talha Nadeem, a motorist who lives in I-10/2 Sector and uses this road for attending his office in Blue Area. He said during the rain, the road turns into a pond and the drivers cannot spot the big holes in the roads and as a result they damage their vehicles.

The 10th Avenue near Metro Super Store and Sabzi Mandi police station has been broken and almost a kilometre long portion requires carpeting.

A taxi driver informed that there are also big holes in the centre of the road in front of H-9 College and said the concerned authorities are not interested in the rehabilitation of the road which is being used by thousands of people.

He also pointed out that portion of Kashmir Road between Peshawar More to G-10 turning need urgent repairing. People have urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and repair these roads helping the road users for a safe journey.

Plaza owners directed to keep premises clean

LAHORE – Owners of auto workshops, commercial plazas and shops in Samanabad Town have been directed to clear their rooftops from useless and wasted material within two days otherwise stern action would be taken against them according to Dengue Control Regulation.

It was decided in a meeting headed by Member National Assembly and Chairman Emergency Response Committee for Dengue Mian Marghoob Ahmad in town office, here on Sunday. Member Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad and officers of the concerned departments were also present on this occasion.

Mian Marghoob said things of no use stored at rooftops were the ideal places for larva which should be eliminated. He said that government was utilising all its resources and adopting scientific methods to create awareness among masses about dengue and now it is duty of the citizens to act according to the information provided by the government regarding anti-dengue preventive measures.

Earlier, while addressing a public awareness seminar about dengue at a private school of Samanabad, Marghoob said desired results about the eradication of dengue could not be achieved without participation of women who were more than half of the total population.

He said if every woman once decides that she will keep her house neat and clean and get rid of  useless things lying in the houses and on rooftops, she will not only save herself  from dengue virus but also protect the whole family. Marghoob appealed to the participants of the seminar to adopt preventive measures regarding dengue and guide others as well in this regard.

Moreover, Marghoob along with town officers visited the union councils of the town and personally monitored the dengue larvae surveillance activities. Continue reading

Overhead bridge at Katchehry Chowk demanded

RAWALPINDI – Heavy and fast traffic at Katchehry Chowk, Rawalpindi, has made it difficult for the pedestrians to go across the road, also increasing the risk of road-accidents. The citizens and lawyers have demanded of Rawalpindi Development Authoriry (RDA) to build an over-head bridge at the Katchehry Chowk also to avoid unnecessary rush of vehicles and pedestrians here.Construction of the bridge would help the passers-by to cross the road with ease and safety.
