CDA clears footpath outside 5-star hotel

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Monday cleared a footpath for pedestrians in front of a five-star hotel on Khayaban-e-Suhrwardy in the light of directives of the Islamabad High Court.

The operation by the CDA Enforcement Directorate was undertaken on Monday morning before office timings after the hotel management failed to comply with the directives and the notice issued by the CDA, said the official who led the operation.

Deputy Director Enforcement Malik Attaullah said that the footpath, which is meant for pedestrians, was blocked by the hotel management by erecting wires and placing heavy blocks. “We had served notice on them but it was not complied with and we took the action,” he said.

During the operation, the CDA team used bulldozers to demolish blocks besides other equipment to cut the barbed wire along Khayaban-e-Suhrwardy.Earlier, another five-star hotel voluntarily removed obstacles, which were used to block the footpath in Sector F-5.

The official said that they faced no resistance during the operation but some hotel management representatives requested them to stop the machinery as they said each block had cost them Rs5,000.
