Corruption in Punjab: govt view

However, the government has ensured to make its development projects free from corruption for which the report of Transparency International is a clear proof.

In the last four years not a single case of corruption has been pointed out in Punjab, though corruption of the previous government, in every sector, appeared as a big hurdle when the PML (N) came to power.

The chief minister has tried to ensure merit and transparency in all government sectors. The Punjab government has completed many mega projects of public interest, including Ashiyana Housing Scheme, Daanish School System, medical colleges at Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot, as well as promotion of information technology by setting up IT university and distribution of laptops among students.

Moreover, the government has made provisions for domestic and foreign scholarships for students from endowment fund, foreign study tours for position-holders and self-employment schemes.

It is worth mentioning that the corruption done by an individual cannot be heaped upon the whole government system. With the ongoing work of anti-corruption department, the Punjab chief minister has also established the CM’s complaint cell and the CM’s special inspection team to make such culprits accountable.

Reports published by foreign organisations have also declared Punjab as the most transparent province of the country.
