G-9 park in a shambles

ISLAMABAD, Sept 1: Park and play land in Sector G-9/4 is in a miserable condition depriving the children of recreation facilities in the area.

Most of the swings and slides in the park were lying broken leaving the children of the area with no choice but to stay at their houses. Those who even try to have a slide get injured.

Resident of the area, Dr Abdul Qayyum while talking to Dawn said in the past he would send his children in the park every day for an hour because he believed that exercise was must for every person especially for the growth of children.

But now he has stopped them from going there as he feels that the the broken swings and slides could harm them. “I have no choice but to stop my children from going there and I cannot go to F-9 Park or Play Land because they are far from my house,” he said.

“My children have stopped doing exercise due to which I can feel signs of anxiety in them and they don’t get proper sleep,” he said.

Jalil Ahmed, a retired officer said that once Capital Development Authority (CDA) was considered the best but now it is like any other civic body of the country.

“It seems CDA’s all attention is towards making money through corruption. I have recently learnt that CDA was going to sell plots worth billions of rupees through under invoicing. Officers should use their brain for the solution of problems of city rather than thinking about corruption,” he said.A child, Muhammad Ali said that he used to play in the park along with his friends but now his mother did not allow him to go to the park because she thought that he might be injured.

Residents of the area have appealed to the CDA to provide the facility in return for taxes they paid to the CDA.

When contacted, CDA Director Public Relation Masoodur Rehman said that the CDA chairman has ordered a survey to ascertain the condition the parks. As soon as survey report is finalised, strategy to upgrade the parks of the city will be devised, he assured.
