RAWALPINDI – The recent spells of rain have not improved the water situation in Rawalpindi but definitely damaged newly constructed Adiala Road by developing potholes and cracks appearing on the its surface at various points, causing immense troubles for motorists and business community, exposing the weak oversight of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA).
RDA constructed and doubled the Adyala Road from Chungi Number 20 to Union Council Kalyal to the tune of Rs 82 million some months back. Whereas the work on duality of two kilometres long piece of Adyala Road, from Union Council Kalyal to Punjab Housing Society, is under way with worth Rs 121 million.
Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan managed to provide the funds to the civic body for the purpose after taking notice of longstanding complaints of area residents and business community.
However, the substandard construction material was used by the contractor under the supervision RDA’s Engineering Department that resulted various pat holes and cracks on Adyala Road at many points.
It is not new thing in RDA as the Engineering Department has track record of using poor quality material for carpeting and renovating the roads and steers in the city, glowing example of which was Sherpao Colony’s streets made by RDA while using tough tiles, which can not bear the burden of heavy traffic, two months back. Later, all the streets caved in during the moon soon season thus inflicting heavy loss to public kitty. RDA Director Engineering Asghar Warraich, when approached in his office by this scribe to get his point of view, tried to hide his department inefficiencies saying the construction work was in progress and there would be so many mistakes in this period. You (this scribe) should pay the visit to check the road only when it completed, he added.
The Director refused to reply a series of questions rose before him and referred this scribe to Deputy Director Engineering Umar Farooq.
DD Engineering Umar, when asked as to why the newly constructed caved in just after three months of its completion, lost his mind over this scribe and said, “What do you want to prove? We daily monitor the situation but find nothing as you told”.
As another question was asked by this scribe, Umar got infuriated and said “Go and do what ever you can do. Yes, RDA is sleeping, we are sleeping. No body is here to visit the sites and see what is going on in the projects being supervised by RDA.”Source: http://www.homespakistan.com/www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/islamabad/10-Aug-2012/potholes-cracks-develop-on-newly-constructed-adiala-road
