LAHORE – The City Police booked PML-N Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor and 14 others on the charges of land grab, a private TV reported on Tuesday. Police sources added that the minister was booked on court orders.
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ittefaq Abbasi summoned Ghafoor and 17 others on a petition seeking repossession of a plot allegedly grabbed by the minister and his accomplices.
In his petition, Yousaf Falooda Shop Owner Malik Jahangir told the court that he had bought the 17-kanal plot on Multan Road.
A few days ago, the minister along with his accomplices occupied the land illegally, he said, adding that he approached the police concerned but to no avail.
He appealed to the court to order the authorities concerned to help him get back his plot.

KARACHI - Provincial Minister of Revenue, Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar, has said that 56,187 acres of land has been distributed during the last four years among landless farmers specially to women to help improve their living standard and empower them economically. He said here on Tuesday that the number of allottees is 6,096 and of these 80 percent are women. The minister said that the purpose of distribution of agriculture land to landless farmers was to eradicate poverty and to empower women so that they might play their effective role in the society. He added that besides providing agriculture land, a supporting package of Rs.58,000 is also being given and in this package seeds, fertilizers and other facilities are included. Jam Mahtab further stated that the process of distribution of agriculture land would continue and more land would also be distributed. He said that agriculture had a vital role in development of the country and farmers were backbone in the system. The importance of women farmers could not be denied, he further pointed out. He said that it was the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to empower the women and that the present democratic government was working to fulfill her vision. Continue reading
