ISLAMABAD: All lawyers of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and district bar, in a general body session, unanimously agreed that none of them would fight any cases pertaining to Malik Riaz or Bahria Town, Express News reported on Thursday.
The lawyers also decided to ban Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s counsel Aitzaz Ahsan and Malik Riaz’s counsel Zahid Bukhari from entering both bars while unanimously approving a resolution expressing unity with the judiciary.
The special bench of the Supreme Court is set to classify on Thursday (today), the nature of the case involving businessman Malik Riaz and Chief Justice Itikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s son Arsalan Iftikhar.
The rules of the proceedings to follow in the case would be laid down after the special bench – comprising Justice Jawad S Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain – decide whether it is a dispute between two individuals or a deeper conspiracy against the judiciary.

Islamabad: Business tycon Malik Riaz Hussain on Wednesday said that Supreme Court would be responsible for his death.
The views were expressed by Business tycon, while giving an interview on Dunya News. He said that he did not have any security contingents along with him and SC would be responsible if any thing would happened to him.
“I did not accept any judicial commission,” he said adding that he is ready to face any investigation regarding his assets and Arsalan graft case.
Malik Raiz revealed that Zardari put forward two conditions for CJP’s restoration which he accepted.
Malik Riaz said that in his meetings with the deposed CJP Ch Iftikhar he had requested for two things.
First that CJP Iftikhar will not trouble the PPP government unduly, and second that he (CJP) will not run a parallel government.
Malik Riaz said he had lot of secrets in his heart.
He said that he was helping the government but government was not helping him.
” Supreme Court and army are the only hope for the people of Pakistan,” he said.
Malik Riaz further denied meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari in his office and said that he hold meetings with the President at his house.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has wrapped up the suo motu case involving Chief Justice’s son Dr Arsalan Iftikhar and real estate tycoon Malik Riaz, ordering action against the two in its short order issued Thursday, DawnNews reported.
The court has ordered the Attorney General Irfan Qadir to take strict legal action against Dr Arsalan Iftikhar, Malik Riaz and his son-in-law Salman.
Justice Jawad s Khawaja read out the short order after Thursday’s proceedings of the controversial case heard by a two member bench of the apex court.
The court said that not only was the Supreme Court’s credibility questioned, but allegations were also levelled against the Chief Justice and the judiciary. The court added that bribery is a sin, and both givers and takers of bribes were sinners.
The SC also explained its reasons for taking the suo motu notice of the case in its Thursday’s short order, It said that the suo motu notice was necessary to counter the wrong perception about the Supreme Court being created due to reports in the media. Continue reading
RAWALPINDI – The auction of site of former Rex Cinema at Westridge remained fruitless after uphill struggle of three days by the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board. The RCB had to auction 38 shops initially, but the staff of RCB has to wait for the contestants to participate in auction by putting banner at the site, then the RCB decided to postpone the auction because the number of contestants was below par.
The RCB had decided to construct a commercial plaza on the site of former Rex Cinema at Westridge.
While the RCB has to build the building of the plaza as it had launched similar projects to construct commercial plaza at Gowalmandi and earned money through auction of the shops and flats. Additional Cantonment Executive Officer Shakeel Anwar said they would construct plaza at the site of Rex Cinema, while new date for the auction will be advertised through newspapers.

KARACHI-The Commissioner Roshan Ali Sheikh has directed the officials to remove all hurdles blocking Education City Project.Presiding at a meeting the Commissioner said that the estimated cost of the Education City was Rs18 to 20 billion. Sheikh said the Education City Project will benefit not only Karachiites but it will be fruitful for every one. He termed the project as a mega scheme, the master plan is near to completion, while billions of rupees will be spent on its infrastructure, he said.The Commissioner has directed implementation of the project and wants nothing to come in the way of its completion. It will be spread of an area of 9000acres at Super Highway.

ISLAMABAD – Succumbing to what an official termed “the immense pressure of the country’s premier spy agency,” the city managers have finally started working on revision of building by-laws for Diplomatic Enclave, ostensibly to reduce storeys the under-construction US Embassy Complex.
The proposal that is under consideration of the city managers is to limit the height of buildings in Diplomatic Enclave up to ground plus five storeys, confided a concerned official who is privy to these developments.
The CDA Director General (Planning) was supposed to give a presentation to CDA Board regarding aforementioned changes in current by-laws for diplomatic area. Though the issue was made part of the agenda of CDA Board meeting held on Wednesday here at Jinnah Convention Centre, it was not discussed for some reasons, the sources said.
Earlier, only ground plus three storeys were allowed, but CDA in year 2007 after revising its building by-laws for the area had allowed construction up to ground plus seven storeys. Continue reading

Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif Wednesday inspected the extension project of Allama Iqbal Road early in the morning.
Member Provincial Assembly Mian Mohsin Latif, the commissioner and the district coordination officer (DCO) Lahore, the LDA director general, the WASA managing director and the officers of NESPAK, NLC and other departments were also present.
Informing about the pace of widening of the road, Lahore commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik said that the project was being monitored on daily basis so that it could be completed as soon as possible. Continue reading

LAHORE, June 13: Impressed by traffic discipline on national highways and motorways, the Punjab government has approached the National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) authorities for the operational control of Ring Road’s northern track, if correspondence between the Punjab government and (NH&MP) officials is to be believed.
Currently, the city traffic police operates on a 47km (on one side) stretch on Ring Road which will be around 90km upon its completion.
The 47km patch has a speed limit up to 100km per hour for cars and minibuses and 80km per hour for buses and trucks from Niazi Chowk to the airport, and 70km per hour for cars and minibuses and 50 for buses and trucks from Saggian to Niazi Chowk. ISLAMABAD, June 13: The city managers on Wednesday approved a proposal aimed at bringing all owners of shops, offices and apartments in commercial buildings into municipal tax net.
The decision was taken at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) board meeting presided over by CDA Chairman Farkhand
The meeting was informed that currently the CDA has been collecting taxes only from original owner of commercial building and not from hundreds of co-lessees or owners of shops, offices and apartments in them. Continue reading
