Rs1.48bn for city projects Lahore

LAHORE, March 31: The Lahore Development Authority has decided to launch various development projects worth Rs1.48 billion in the city.

The schemes include construction of new roads and improvement, widening and rehabilitation of existing ones, a sports complex and a hockey stadium at Johar Town. It was decided in a meeting of the LDA governing body chaired by District
Coordination Officer and Chairman LDA Noorul Amin Mengal here on Saturday.

The body approved the scheme for the improvement and carpeting of 4km Khayaban-i-Firdousi Main Boulevard at Johar Town (from Shouk Chowk to Shaukat Khanum Hospital) that will cost Rs204.323 million. This dual carriageway will be widened from
existing 24 feet to 30 feet on both sides and will be strengthened by two layers of a two-inch thick carpeting work. Execution of this project will facilitate flow of traffic during peak hours.

It approved construction of a 40-meter wide new road (from Southern Bypass near Wapda Town Roundabout to PIA Chowk) that will cost Rs226.146 million. This road will provide shortest link between Industrial Estate Quaid-i-Azam Town and Southern Bypass connecting to Motorway M-2 and National Highways N-5. The distance from Al-Jannat Hall, College Road to Wapda Roundabout through Ghazi Chowk is about 4.6 km whereas the proposed section of this link will be 3.5 kilometers.

It also gave the go-ahead for the construction of a 1.5 kilometer long new road worth Rs35.894 million (from LDA Avenue-1 to Defence Road), rehabilitation and improvement of the existing 2km Peco Road (Peco Roundabout to Lahore Bridge, Ferozepur Road) worth Rs163 million, infrastructure development in the Finance and Trade Centre (Johar Town) worth Rs583.718 million. This centre will be the hub of commercial activities for Southern Lahore. The Expo Centre has already been constructed adjacent to proposed Trade and Finance Centre. An amount of Rs70 million will be spent on improvement of traffic flow at Lal Pul Intersection, Mughalpura, through widening and improvement of Canal Bank.
It also approved construction of a sports complex and a hockey stadium at Johar town worth Rs200 million on a piece of land measuring over 31 kanals. The abutting Khayaban-i-Firdousi road, on plot No. 455 D2 to 466 D2 at M.A Johar Town, Lahore will also be accomplished at a cost of Rs150 million.

The meeting was attended by LDA Vice-Chairman Amir Asgher Dar, Wasa Vice-Chairman Haji Muhammad Sharif, LDA Director-General Ahad Cheema, Wasa Managing-Director Dr Javed Iqbal and other senior officials.
