LAHORE, March 30: A Punjab government’s committee tasked with reforming building laws recommends the setting up a ‘building control authority (BCA)’ at divisional level in the province on the pattern of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).

The committee was made after the collapse of a pharmaceutical factory in Kharak in February.

ISLAMABAD, March 30:  Park Enclave housing project on Friday received another jolt when National Engineering Services of Pakistan (Nespak) rejected all bids submitted by four firms pre-qualified for designing and laying of infrastructure, official of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) told Dawn.

Nespak services were hired by the CDA two months ago to assess technical bids of four construction firms. It found flaws in their bids. Continue reading

Plots merger with Bahria Town LHC special bench to decide cases

ISLAMABAD, March 26: A bench of the Supreme Court on Monday requested the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court to create a special bench to combine and decide, within two months, the scattered cases it had been hearing relating to the complaints of members of a housing society that their plots were transferred to the Bahria Town without their consent.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez, had taken up a number of the complaints separately, in which different orders had been passed according to the nature of the case. Continue reading

LDA chief annuls predecessor`s decision

LAHORE, March 26: Lahore Development Authority Director General Ahad Cheema on Monday cancelled his predecessor`s March 19 order of entrusting 11 inquiries to additional director general (housing) Irfan Ali Bhatti.

Former LDA director general Abdul Jabbar Shaheen had withdrawn these inquiries from additional director general (headquarters) Hafiz Ehsanul Haq and assigned these to Bhatti.

RAWALPINDI, March 26: Following the directives of the Punjab government to build parking plazas under private-public partnership in the city, the City District Government Rawalpindi has requested the Punjab government to give back possession of the 13 kanals at Raja Bazaar to Rawal Town Municipal Administration.

The defunct Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) owned the land which was later taken over by the provincial government after the TMA offices were shifted to the new complex in 2004.

The former office, spreading over 13 kanals and 11 marlas, has been lying vacant for the last seven years. At present, a Suzuki and wagon stand has been set up at the site and the TMA is collecting parking fee from the vehicles amounting to Rs4.5 million per annum. Continue reading

Plaza demolition case: CMIT recommends action against LDA officials

LAHORE, March 25: The Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT) has recommended a stern action under the law as well as initiation of inquires under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act 2006 and departmental action against 31 LDA senior and junior officials allegedly involved in showing criminal negligence in a plaza demolition tragedy that claimed lives of four labourers in September 2011.

Sources told Dawn on Sunday that the inquiry officer, Mr Tahir Yousaf (Member CMIT) in his report, compiled under technical assistance of a senior engineering expert, Prof Zahid Siddiqui of the University of Engineering and Technology (Lahore) has recommended initiation of criminal proceedings under the law as well as an inquiry under PEEDA Act against Chaudhry Muhammad Akram (Chief Town Planner), Muhammad Saeed Akhtar (then Chief Engineer and now Tepa chief engineer), Khalid Mehmood Sheikh (Director Town Planning) and Abdul Razzaq (Director EME). Flyover fails to free Benazir Bhutto Road of traffic jams

RAWALPINDI, March 25: The City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) on Sunday closed down Naz Cinema U-turn on Benazir Bhutto Road for four days to check improvement in traffic flow for and from Chandni Chowk Flyover.

The CDGR installed cemented barricades to stop the traffic movement from Kohati Bazaar to Khanna Road. It will also close down the U-turn of Kohati Bazaar if this effort did not work. Continue reading

New housing schemes for FG employees on the cards

ISLAMABAD – Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation intends to launch a new housing scheme for FG employees on ownership basis in Sector F-13 or F-14.

Two residential schemes are also under consideration of the Foundation which are aimed at effectively meeting the growing housing needs of FG employees in Capital.

A senior official at Ministry of Housing and Works on Sunday said these are high-rise apartment schemes in Sector G-13/1 & 4, Islamabad and a plots scheme at Barakahu, Islamabad (Zone-IV). Continue reading
