BAHAWALPUR, Oct 25: The owners of more than 30 illegal housing schemes are fleecing people in the city without any fear of action from the quarters concerned.

It’s learnt that the owners and developers of these housing schemes made hundreds of people and property dealers bankrupt, but government officials did not take any action against them. The mushroom growth of illegal housing schemes started here in 2005 without the approval of the city tehsil municipal administration. These developers cheated people and caused a loss of millions of rupees to the provincial exchequer. They used newspaper hawkers to send their handbills and pamphlets to every house of the city. Rawalpindi: Finally the construction work on much anticipated flyover from Benazir Bhutto Hospital to Chandni Chowk on Murree Road has begun, as the government has released funds for the project.

On the other hand the public is facing problems in traffic movement due to the construction work because they have no idea about any diversion plan and the authorities have failed to place any diversion signs ahead of the construction site to guide public. Continue reading

Funds’ approval for Lowari tunnel hailed

CHITRAL, Oct 26: The local leaders of Pakistan People’s Party have welcomed approval of Rs18 billion for Lowari tunnel and said that the project’s completion will usher in a new era of development and employment.

Addressing a news conference here, general secretary PPP, Chitral Mohammad Hakim Khan, vice-president Shamsur Rehman and coordination secretary Iqbal Hayat said the locals were thankful to President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, governor Khyber PakhtunkhwaMasood Kausar and communication minister Arbab Alamgir for their contributions to the release of the delayed Lowari tunnel funds.

THATTA, Oct 26: The revenue department, in an attempt to acquire land for its project of Zulfikarabad in the coastal area of Thatta district, has cancelled property deeds of another 150,000 acres of private land, declaring its ownership as suspicious and bogus.

According to information collected by Dawn, the newly cancelled plots are located in Keti Bandar, Shah Bandar, Kharochhan and Jati talukas.

I-11 cattle market auctioned for Rs 6.5m

ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: The city managers on Wednesday auctioned the I-11 sector cattle market for Rs6.5 million against Rs3.5 million they sold out last year, increasing the price by almost 100 per cent this year.

It is feared that auctioning of the land for the market on such a high price will further increase the rate of sacrificial animals in the federal capital and a large number of people will not be able to fulfill religious ritual (sacrificing of animal) on the occasion of Eidul Azha falling on November 7 or 8. Rawalpindi’s first parking plaza set to start next month

RAWALPINDI: City’s first parking plaza at Fowara Chowk in Raja Bazaar would start operation next month. Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General (DG) said this on Monday.

He informed that building work of the parking plaza was near completion as its renovation work was underway which would be completed soon. He also said that the project was being completed at a cost of nearly Rs20 million that would certainly mitigate the problems of the motorists who visit the busiest bazaar of the town. ISLAMABAD: The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial support of Rs 8.8 million to Kohsar Welfare Society (KWS) for the construction of seven kilometer concrete link road in village Lower Chalawara, Kotli Sattian, Rawalpindi District. LAHORE – SP Cantonment Hashmat Kamal foiled two consecutive attempts of land grabbing in the Hassanabad area, where some 20 land-grabbers made criminal efforts to seized over 3 kanals of land of a property dealer several days back. CCPO Malik Ahmed Raza Tahir has also marked an inquiry against the responsible to SP Kamal.

Raja Azeem Afzal, a resident of E-95, Phase-VIII, DHA, purchased 28 kanal and 10 marlas of land in the Barki police precincts in 2003. There he constructed four rooms and a swimming pool. “After five years, one Riaz along with his accomplices former Union Nazim Saeed, son of Soba, scuffled with me saying they owned two kanals of land there,” Raja Afzal told this reporter.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: A National Logistics Cell`s request to the Civil Aviation Authority seeking permission to install its machinery close to the airfield of Benazir Bhutto International Airport for starting work on the Rs1.2 billion Chandni Chowk flyover remains in limbo since the authority has termed it `hazardous` fearing it may create smog for the aircraft approaching the runway; Dawn learnt on Saturday.

The Rs1.2 billion project has already been under the scrutiny of the Ministry of Defence and its attached departments – CAA and the Pakistan Air Force – because of the flyover`s height. Continue reading
